Imagination Library

Imagination Library

The Let's Read program and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library are being introduced to the Yakima and Kittitas Valleys by Circle of Success, Inc.®. This program brings a book a month to the families of the valley at no cost. Books are available in English and Spanish.

Let's Read and the Imagination Library is administrated by the Pigeon Forge-based Dollywood Foundation. Imagination Library coordinates the ordering and distribution of books to all participants. Parton's Imagination Library currently operates in over 325 communities in 40 states.

The states of Tennessee and Illinois now support the literacy program for every preschool child in their states. The 60 volume collection is selected by a committee comprised of professionals with education, child development, academia and early childhood literacy experience.

A recent study by High/Scope Educational Research Foundation documents the success of the Imagination Library program as parents overwhelming report that the program is effective at increasing time spent reading with children, making children more interested in books, making parents more comfortable ready to children, and increasing parent awareness of their children's reading levels. (Imagination Library 2003 Year in Review, posted on Imagination Library website. 2004.)

One testimonial from a parent states, "My boys are thrilled when their books arrive in the mail. Everything else stops and we read their new books at least two times each!" With the support of businesses and citizens, Let's Read and the Imagination Library can bring books and inspire reading in the home of every preschool child in the Yakima and Kittitas Valleys.
